Teeth Whitening Procedure
Teeth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, noninvasive dental treatment that changes the color of natural tooth enamel and is an excellent way to improve the appearance of your smile.
Because having whiter teeth has now become the most important aesthetic concern for the majority of patients, there are several ways to whiten teeth. The most popular method is to use a home teeth whitening system to dramatically whiten teeth. Because teeth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is critical to replace any old fillings, crowns, and other dental work. After bleaching, any restorations will be replaced to match the newly bleached teeth.
Teeth whitening is not a long-term solution. A touch-up may be required every few years.
What Are the Advantages of Teeth Whitening Procedures?
Shiny white teeth can help you have a more confident smile. Bright teeth and a new smile are achievable with professional teeth whitening performed by Dr. Kheir and the Evolution Dentistry team. The following are some of the advantages of teeth whitening treatments at our Houston, TX office:
- Teeth can whiten by several shades.
- Surface stain removal
- Teeth that are severely discolored can be improved.
- It is not harmful to your teeth or gums.
- Treatments are usually brief.
- There is no discomfort.
- Reliable and long-lasting outcomes
- To keep your results, you can have multiple treatments.
Is Teeth Whitening Right for Me?
When weighing the benefits and drawbacks of professional-strength whitening vs. over-the-counter whitening options, keep your goals in mind. If your smile has always been white and has only recently begun to discolor, a grocery-store kit may produce excellent but temporary results. You may be a good candidate for professional-grade teeth whitening at Evolution Dentistry if your teeth have deeper discoloration. If you need home touch-ups, Dr. Kheir may also offer at-home custom trays that can be used in conjunction with our whitening gels for maintenance.
Reasons to Whiten Teeth:
Fluorosis (excessive fluoridation of teeth during development)
The outer tooth layer wears normally.
Medication-related tooth stains (tetracycline, for example)
Teeth that are yellow or brown in color
What Is the Process of Teeth Whitening?
Typically, this method of teeth whitening necessitates two appointments. During the initial visit, molds of your teeth will be taken to create personalized, transparent plastic trays. In the subsequent appointment, you will try on the trays to ensure they fit properly, and any necessary adjustments will be made. The trays are used in combination with a special whitening solution, either twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight, depending on the extent of staining and desired level of whiteness. It is common to experience tooth sensitivity while undergoing the whitening process, but this discomfort will fade shortly after you cease bleaching. You will be provided with instructions on how to care for your teeth and trays, and it is recommended to schedule regular visits to your dentist to maintain a gorgeous, healthy, white smile.
What can I expect after having my teeth whitened?
You may experience some sensitivity to hot or cold beverages after a teeth whitening procedure, but this usually goes away after a few days. Regular dental exams, as with all dental procedures, are essential for preserving results. After the primary procedure is completed, we usually recommend returning for touch-ups a couple of times a year, as well as bi-annual cleanings that will benefit your dental health. Remember that just because your teeth are whitened doesn’t mean they’re in perfect condition. That is why regular exams are still necessary. You’ll also be given specific instructions on what foods to eat and what to avoid in the near future, including red wine and coffee.
